gamma-irradiated in precursor of carbon materials and studied an alteration in carbonization process and carbonized materials.gamma-irradiation produced mainly rearrangement of bonds, oxidation and cleavage of bonds. gamma-irradiation were varieties of effects by materials.
(1)gamma-ray source:Japan Atomic Energy Institute,4.07 PBq Co-60 unit.
(2) Conditions: air, nitrogen, oxygen, mixed gas of nitrogen and oxygen, room temperature and 80゜C.
(3)raw materials: acenaphthylene, acenaphthene, p-quaterphenyl, naphthacene, starches(potato,sweet potato,corn,wheat,rice) cyclodextrin (alpha-,beta-,gamma-),almond shell,olive stone, bamboo,phenol resin,
(4)Principal results: most of gamma-irradiated samples show following characters 1. larger carbon yield than non-irradiated one. 2. harder carbon is obtained. 3. sintering character is appeared 4. larger burn-off rate and larger specific surface area. 5. spherule carbons are obtained from starches.
