We applied time management assistive tool - RAINMAN Toolkit Ver. 4 - to children with developmental disabilities and/or intellectual disabilities in the special support school, the special support class and the regular class. Participant children, teachers and their parents estimated that this tool was very useful to perform activities.

We researched understanding of mind in children with developmental disorders. We developed an understanding task based on Baron-Cohen, et al. (1985) and Happe (1994), and executed it to typically developed children and children with developmental disorders. In a false belief task, children heard a story (false belief) and were asked to predict behavior of a character. In advanced task of understanding of mind, children heard several stories (metaphor, lie, white lie, joke, and cynics), and asked which a character's speech was true or not, why he/she said so. Most of typically developed children and most of children with developmental disorders succeeded to predict behavior of the character and to judge which the character's speech was true or not. Typically developed children referred to the character's mental states or intention. Contrarily, children with high functioning pervasive developmental disorders did not correctly refer to the character's mental states or intention.
On the other hand, we researched the development of social behaviors and understanding of mind in a child with autistic disorder. In a special education school, the child joined drama lessons. In one drama, he was trained to pay an attention to other's gaze. He became to pay attention voluntarily to other's gaze in drama, and to support voluntarily his partner. In the other drama lesson, he was trained to express emotion with facial expression, gestures, and so on. He became to play drama actively and expressively. In daily life, his voluntary social behaviors and prosocial behaviors were increased. We execute some false belief tasks with him. He became to succeed one of the tasks. -

本研究では,ソシオメトリーの技法と行動観察の技法を組み合わせることで,知的障害者更生施設における集団構造の定量化を可能にするシステムの構築を行った。研究協力施設において対人行動の種類と相手を記録し,ソシオメトリーの集計法を用いて集計を行った。そのために必要な,集計プログラムを作成し,運用を行った。入所者個人の地位の高低を表す指数,集団全体の親和度・結合度を表す指数,下位集団(いわゆる「仲良し集団」)の構成,孤立している者の構成などを集計した。集計された各指標は,指導員が持っている入所者の対人関係についての認知や集団構造についての認知とよく一致していた。
この技法を用いて,長期間にわたり,施設内の人間関係の様態の時間的推移について検討を行った。その結果,入所者個人の施設内での地位,集団の親和性・結合性,下位集団の構成などの集団構造は,比較的安定していたものの,対人関係が活発になる時期(季節・行事等)には,肯定的な対人関係と否定的な対人関係の両方が活性化していることが明らかとなった。
さらに,他の要因との関連性について検討を行ったところ,入所者個人の地位や下位集団への所属の有無と知的障害の程度やあわせもつ障害の種類とは明らかな関連は見られなかった。このことは入所者個人の対人行動の特性が重要であることを示唆していると思われた。また,性差においては,女性入所者のほうが全体として地位が低く,経時的に安定していないことが明らかとなった。このことは,女性入所者は対人行動が肯定的と否定的の両側面において活発であり,それが時期によって安定していないことを示唆していた。 -
A longitudinal research of joint attention and its characteristic in handicapped infants

A questionnaire survey of joint attention in infants : We made a standardized developmental assessment of communication behaviors, in which contained 60 items (22 items of JA, 6 attachment, 2 problem behaviors, 14 motor skill, and 16 language ability) . As the result of the questionnaire survey to a large population (n=1268), it becomes clear that this checklist is composed of 5 factors as expected. Ability of JA made remarkable rapid progress at 10 month ago, and passed almost of JA items until at 18 month. For theoretical investigations of "scaffolding" of JA : Dousa-hou was interpreted as triadic interaction in which the object shared by a trainee and trainer was the structure that was embedded of the sense of striving and affection. Another results of quantitative analysis, a case study of a child with a severely handicapped, and, a research task in future, were mentioned in a final report of this research fund.

思春期・青年期自閉性障害児者の余暇活動に関する研究

思春期・青年期自閉性障害児者の余暇活動の実態について調査と余暇活動の支援を行った。調査からは,余暇活動を含めた自閉性障害児者と家族が抱える問題が明らかとなった一方で,余暇活動が彼らの自己実現や社会性の改善に寄与したと思われる事例も明らかとなった。余暇活動の中での集団のリーダーの経験等を通し自尊心や周りへの配慮・優しさを獲得した者や子どもの頃に接していたボランティアと文通を行うことで他者とコミュニケーションすることの楽しさに目覚めた者がいた。
余暇活動という自由な時間・空間の中で,自閉的なやり方ではありつつも自発的でプレイフルな他者とのかかわりを楽しめる者が数多く存在した。また,高機能の者の中には,活動の最中に他者を気づかったり,援助したりする行動を示した者も見られた。活動内容の急な変更に対しても前の予定にこだわったり,パニックを起こす行動はほとんど見られなかった。こだわった者に対しては,本人の話を聞き,次の機会にどうしたらよいかを提案させることで,それ以上こだわることはなかった。
余暇活動の企画を担当した者は,意欲的に取り組んでおり,個人の興味や趣味に基づき他のメンバーの要望を加味したものを提案していた。
1年間の活動の反省では,知的機能の程度にかかわらず,本人なりの表現で,それぞれの余暇活動の中でよかった点や次への要望を述べることができていた。高機能の者の中には,他のメンバーの意見に対しコメントや提案をする者もいた。それらのコメントや提案は,本人の興味などに基づくものが多かったが,他のメンバーに対する配慮の感じられるものも含まれていた。
また,余暇活動に参加した者の中から希望者に活動の様子を写真記録と報告文の執筆をしてもらった。それらは,会報として編集し,会員に郵送した。また,インターネットのwebページにも掲載した。写真や文章は自閉性障害者らしい視点からのものであったが,参加者の内面に触れた記述も見られた。
今回の余暇活動の実践から,自閉性障害児者の余暇活動は,単に本人なりの自由時間の過ごし方を教えるだけでなく,自由に楽しめる時間の中で本人なりの他者や社会へのかかわる楽しさとその方法を教えることもできる可能性が示唆された。
