    This is a survey of accumulated spectral analysis observations spanning more
    than a century, referring to the double layer potential integral equation, also
    known as Neumann-Poincar\'e operator. The very notion of spectral analysis has
    evolved along this path. Indeed, the quest for solving this specific singular
    integral equation, originally aimed at elucidating classical potential theory
    problems, has inspired and shaped the development of theoretical spectral
    analysis of linear transforms in XX-th century. We briefly touch some marking
    discoveries into the subject, with ample bibliographical references to both
    old, sometimes forgotten, texts and new contributions. It is remarkable that
    applications of the spectral analysis of the Neumann-Poincar\'e operator are
    still uncovered nowadays, with spectacular impacts on applied science. A few
    modern ramifications along these lines are depicted in our survey.

    We first investigate spectral properties of the Neumann–Poincaré (NP) operator for the Lamé system of elasto-statics. We show that the elasto-static NP operator can be symmetrized in the same way as that for the Laplace operator. We then show that even if elasto-static NP operator is not compact even on smooth domains, it is polynomially compact and its spectrum on two-dimensional smooth domains consists of eigenvalues that accumulate to two different points determined by the Lamé constants. We then derive explicitly eigenvalues and eigenfunctions on discs and ellipses. Using these resonances occurring at eigenvalues is considered. We also show on ellipses that cloaking by anomalous localized resonance takes place at accumulation points of eigenvalues.

    We study the spectral properties of Schrodinger operators on perturbed lattices. We shall prove the non-existence or the discreteness of embedded eigenvalues, the limiting absorption principle for the resolvent, construct a spectral representation, and define the S-matrix. Our theory covers the square, triangular, diamond, Kagome lattices, as well as the ladder, the graphite and the subdivision of square lattice.

    We investigate in a quantitative way the plasmon resonance at eigenvalues and the essential spectrum (the accumulation point of eigenvalues) of the Neumann- Poincare operator on smooth domains. We first extend the symmetrization principle so that the single layer potential becomes a unitary operator from H-1/2 onto H-1/2. We then show that the resonance at the essential spectrum is weaker than that at eigenvalues. It is shown that anomalous localized resonance occurs at the essential spectrum on ellipses, and cloaking due to anomalous localized resonance does occur on ellipses like on the core-shell structure considered in [19]. It is shown that cloaking due to anomalous localized resonance does not occur at the essential spectrum on three dimensional balls. (C) 2015 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

    We study resonance for the Helmholtz equation with a finite frequency in a plasmonic material of negative dielectric constant in two and three dimensions. We show that the quasi-static approximation is valid for diametrically small inclusions. In fact, we quantitatively prove that if the diameter of an inclusion is small compared to the loss parameter, then resonance occurs exactly at eigenvalues of the Neumann-Poincare operator associated with the inclusion.

    We consider the Schrödinger operator with Poisson type random potential, and derive the spectrum which is deterministic almost surely. Apart from some exceptional cases, the spectrum is equal to [0, ∞) if the single-site potential is nonnegative, and is equal to R if the negative part of it does not vanish with positive probability, which is consistent with the naive observation. To prove that, we use the theory of admissible potential and the Weyl asymptotics. Communicated by Jean Bellissard.

    主にオンラインのビデオ会議やメールでのやり取りにより、研究課題の推進を計った。また、オンラインの国際研究集会で研究成果を発表したり、国内外の研究者を招待して関連研究についてオンラインで発表する研究集会を企画し、研究成果の周知に努めた。
    具体的には、研究分担者と共同研究者との共同研究に基づく研究結果について、2021年5月にオンラインで開催された国際研究集会「International Conference on Partial Differential Equations Related to Material Science」にて発表した。発表内容は、2次元および3次元において領域が"細く"なる領域におけるノイマン-ポアンカレ作用素のスペクトルの分布についてである。
    さらに、2021年12月のRIMS研究集会「スペクトル・散乱理論とその周辺」の研究代表者として、ノイマン-ポアンカレ作用素のスペクトル解析およびその周辺の研究課題について海外の共同研究者を招待してオンラインで発表を依頼した。ノイマン-ポアンカレ作用素の固有値分布や非可換スペクトル解析などについて最近の研究成果について共同研究者に発表をしてもらった。
    また、宮西吉久氏と2022年1月にオンラインでノイマン-ポアンカレ作用素のスペクトル解析に関連する国際研究集会および意見交換をオンラインで開催した。意見交換では、3次元の領域におけるノイマン-ポアンカレ作用素に負の固有値が現れる条件などについて、活発な議論が行われた。

    We have studied the relationship between the eigenvalues of Neumann-Poincare operators which are boundary integral operators, and the smoothness of the boundary, mainly in two-dimansions. The decay rate of the eigenvalues of Neumann-Poincare operator has a close relationship with anomalous localized resonance. We have studied the Neumann-Poincare operator associated to both the Laplace operator and the Lame operator, and we obtained the followings: if the boundary is an analytic curve, then the eigenvalues of Neumann-Poincare operator accumulate exponentially.

    The purpose of this work is to study the spectral properties and resonances (complex eigenvalues) of Dirac operators and relativistic Pauli operators, which are important Hamiltonians in the relativistic quantum mechanics, with a bounded magnetic potential and an unbounded electric potential. We also assume that these potentials are dilation analytic. We first study their spectral properties by using the complex scaled Hamiltonians, and then obtain some resonance-free-region.Moreover, we show that each resonance converges to a resonance (or eigenvalue) of the corresponding Pauli operator as the velocity of light goes to infinity.
