    Introduction

    Eliciting the emotional and behavioral states of children with severe or profound intellectual disabilities (IDs) and profound intellectual and multiple disabilities (PIMD) due to their complex and atypical developmental trajectories has become increasingly elusive. It is evident that the environment, influenced by weather conditions and time of the day, plays a pivotal role in molding children’s behaviors, emotions, and interactions. This underscores the significance of the environment as a critical factor in exploring the communication dynamics of children with PIMD/IDs.

    Methods

    Over five months during fall and winter seasons, we conducted 105 video-recorded sessions with 20 children aged 8 to 16 with PIMD/IDs. These sessions aimed to capture the emotional and behavioral states interpreted by caregivers while simultaneously collecting indoor and outdoor weather indices, location, and time data. Using cross-classified multilevel and general linear models adjusted for individual characteristics and location variability with subsequent simple slope analyses, we examined the main and seasonal interaction effects of indoor and outdoor weather indices and time of the day on the emotional and behavioral states of children with PIMD/IDs.

    Results

    The models revealed that higher atmospheric pressure (atm), indicative of pleasant and favorable weather conditions, was associated with increased engagement (indoor: p < 0.01; outdoor: p < 0.01) and interest (outdoor: p < 0.01) behaviors. In contrast, engagement levels decreased before lunchtime (p < 0.01; p < 0.001), and inclement or unstable weather conditions characterized by low-pressure systems (p < 0.05) and stronger wind speed (p < 0.05) led to more refusal or disagreement. During winter, children displayed significantly more agreement with their caregivers (p < 0.001). Interestingly, they also engaged more on cloudy days (p < 0.05). Furthermore, simple slope analyses revealed that high atm conditions in fall were linked to more engagement (p < 0.05) while humid conditions predicted more assent behaviors (p < 0.001). However, cloudy weather predicted less attentional focusing (p < 0.05) and interest (p < 0.01) behaviors in winter.

    Conclusion

    This study confirms that fluctuations in weather indices, including seasonal changes and time of the day, can provide potential pathway indicators and supplement behavioral observations to elicit the behavioral states of children with PIMD/IDs. These findings highlight the importance of considering these factors when designing meaningful interactions and communication interventions for this population.

    Communication interventions have broadened from dialogical meaning-making, assessment approaches, to remote-controlled interactive objects. Yet, interpretation of the mostly pre-or protosymbolic, distinctive, and idiosyncratic movements of children with intellectual disabilities (IDs) or profound intellectual and multiple disabilities (PIMD) using computer-based assistive technology (AT), machine learning (ML), and environment data (ED: location, weather indices and time) remain insufficiently unexplored. We introduce a novel behavior inference computer-based communication-aid AT system structured on machine learning (ML) framework to interpret the movements of children with PIMD/IDs using ED. To establish a stable system, our study aimed to train, cross-validate (10-fold), test and compare the classification accuracy performance of ML classifiers (eXtreme gradient boosting [XGB], support vector machine [SVM], random forest [RF], and neural network [NN]) on classifying the 676 movements to 2, 3, or 7 behavior outcome classes using our proposed dataset recalibration (adding ED to movement datasets) with or without Boruta feature selection (53 child characteristics and movements, and ED-related features). Natural-child-caregiver-dyadic interactions observed in 105 single-dyad video-recorded (30-hour) sessions targeted caregiver-interpreted facial, body, and limb movements of 20 8-to 16-year-old children with PIMD/IDs and simultaneously app-and-sensor-collected ED. Classification accuracy variances and the influences of and the interaction among recalibrated dataset, feature selection, classifiers, and classes on the pooled classification accuracy rates were evaluated using three-way ANOVA. Results revealed that Boruta and NN-trained dataset in class 2 and the non-Boruta SVM-trained dataset in class 3 had >76% accuracy rates. Statistically significant effects indicating high classification rates (>60%) were found among movement datasets: with ED, non-Boruta, class 3, SVM, RF, and NN. Similar trends (>69%) were found in class 2, NN, Boruta-trained movement dataset with ED, and SVM and RF, and non-Boruta-trained movement dataset with ED in class 3. These results support our hypotheses that adding environment data to movement datasets, selecting important features using Boruta, using NN, SVM and RF classifiers, and classifying movements to 2 and 3 behavior outcomes can provide >73.3% accuracy rates, a promising performance for a stable ML-based behavior inference communication-aid AT system for children with PIMD/IDs.

    <title>Background</title>
    Children with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities (PIMD) or severe motor and intellectual disabilities (SMID) only communicate through movements, vocalizations, body postures, muscle tensions, or facial expressions on a pre- or protosymbolic level. Yet, to the best of our knowledge, there are few systems developed to specifically aid in categorizing and interpreting behaviors of children with PIMD or SMID to facilitate independent communication and mobility. Further, environmental data such as weather variables were found to have associations with human affects and behaviors among typically developing children; however, studies involving children with neurological functioning impairments that affect communication or those who have physical and/or motor disabilities are unexpectedly scarce.


    </sec>
    <sec>
    <title>Objective</title>
    This paper describes the design and development of the ChildSIDE app, which collects and transmits data associated with children’s behaviors, and linked location and environment information collected from data sources (GPS, iBeacon device, ALPS Sensor, and OpenWeatherMap application programming interface [API]) to the database. The aims of this study were to measure and compare the server/API performance of the app in detecting and transmitting environment data from the data sources to the database, and to categorize the movements associated with each behavior data as the basis for future development and analyses.

    <sec>
    <title>Methods</title>
    This study utilized a cross-sectional observational design by performing multiple single-subject face-to-face and video-recorded sessions among purposively sampled child-caregiver dyads (children diagnosed with PIMD/SMID, or severe or profound intellectual disability and their primary caregivers) from September 2019 to February 2020. To measure the server/API performance of the app in detecting and transmitting data from data sources to the database, frequency distribution and percentages of 31 location and environment data parameters were computed and compared. To categorize which body parts or movements were involved in each behavior, the interrater agreement κ statistic was used.


    </sec>
    <sec>
    <title>Results</title>
    The study comprised 150 sessions involving 20 child-caregiver dyads. The app collected 371 individual behavior data, 327 of which had associated location and environment data from data collection sources. The analyses revealed that ChildSIDE had a server/API performance &gt;93% in detecting and transmitting outdoor location (GPS) and environment data (ALPS sensors, OpenWeatherMap API), whereas the performance with iBeacon data was lower (82.3%). Behaviors were manifested mainly through hand (22.8%) and body movements (27.7%), and vocalizations (21.6%).

    <title>Conclusions</title>
    The ChildSIDE app is an effective tool in collecting the behavior data of children with PIMD/SMID. The app showed high server/API performance in detecting outdoor location and environment data from sensors and an online API to the database with a performance rate above 93%. The results of the analysis and categorization of behaviors suggest a need for a system that uses motion capture and trajectory analyses for developing machine- or deep-learning algorithms to predict the needs of children with PIMD/SMID in the future.

    <title>Background</title>
    While early detection and effective control of epidemics depend on appropriate surveillance methods, the Philippines bases its dengue fever surveillance system on a passive surveillance method (notifications from barangay/village health centers, municipal or city health offices, hospitals, and clinics). There is no available mHealth (mobile health) app for dengue fever that includes all the appropriate surveillance methods in early detection of disease outbreaks in the country.


    </sec>
    <sec>
    <title>Objective</title>
    This study aimed to evaluate the usability of the Mozzify app in terms of objective quality (engagement, functionality, aesthetics, information) and app subjective and app-specific qualities and compare total app mean score ratings by sociodemographic profile and self and family dengue fever history to see what factors are associated with high app mean score rating among school-based young adult samples and health care professionals. Individual interviews and focus group discussions were also conducted among participants to develop themes from their comments and suggestions to help structure further improvement and future development of the app.

    <sec>
    <title>Methods</title>
    User experience sessions were conducted among participants, and the Mobile Application Rating Scale (MARS) professional and user versions (uMARS) were administered followed by individual interviews and focus group discussions. Descriptive statistical analysis of the MARS and uMARS score ratings was performed. The total app mean score ratings by sociodemographic and dengue fever history using nonparametric mean difference analyses were also conducted. Thematic synthesis was used to develop themes from the comments and suggestions raised in individual interviews and focus group discussions.


    </sec>
    <sec>
    <title>Results</title>
    Mozzify obtained an overall &gt;4 (out of 5) mean score ratings in the MARS and uMARS app objective quality (4.45), subjective (4.17), and specific (4.55) scales among 948 participants (79 health care professionals and 869 school-based samples). Mean difference analyses revealed that total app mean score ratings were not significantly different across ages and gender among health care professionals and across age, income categories, and self and family dengue fever history but not gender (P&lt;.001) among the school-based samples. Thematic syntheses revealed 7 major themes: multilanguage options and including other diseases; Android version availability; improvements on the app’s content, design, and engagement; inclusion of users from low-income and rural areas; Wi-Fi connection and app size concerns; data credibility and issues regarding user security and privacy.


    </sec>
    <sec>
    <title>Conclusions</title>
    With its acceptable performance as perceived by health care professionals and school-based young adults, Mozzify has the potential to be used as a strategic health intervention system for early detection of disease outbreaks in the Philippines. It can be used by health care professionals of any age and gender and by school-based samples of any age, socioeconomic status, and dengue fever history. The study also highlights the feasibility of school-based young adults to use health-related apps for disease prevention.

    It is difficult for students under hospital care by the reasons of severe disease to attend school classes, and there exists many students who takes remote classes due to COVID-19 in 2020. We constructed a system which enables a student to attend classes using an alter ego robot which provides scenery of the class to the student through a monitor in front of the student. It is important to restrict the amount of information on the class lesson given to the student to avoid decrease in concentration. As a method to restrict the amount of the information, we propose a service in which notable description on the blackboard pointed by the teacher is magnified and shown to the student through the monitor. The parameters which can affect human psychology such as magnification rate, tracking characteristics to the change of the pointed position, the timing to return from magnification to the normal display when the pointing motion ends, are evaluated by the Semantic Differential method. It is clarified from the factor analysis that the emotion to the service can be expressed by the factors of legibility, emotionality and stability. In addition, the desirable magnification rate, breakpoint frequency of the first order delay characteristics to the change of pointed position, and dead time before returning to the normal display are clarified.

    To develop a support system that interprets the needs of children with severe motor and intellectual disabilities, we developed an app that records and collects supporters' interpretation of needs and background information and verified its data transfer success rate. At a special school, we observed interactions between the supporters and children with severe disabilities and recorded the details and background information when the supporters interpreted the needs of children with severe disabilities. As a result of success rate verification, it was confirmed that the data transfer success rate of the app was enough applicative to collect learning data for need estimation system.

    <title>BACKGROUND</title>
    <p>For the last 10 years, mobile phones have provided the global health community with innovative and cost-effective strategies to address the challenges in the prevention and management of dengue fever.</p>
    </sec>
    <sec>
    <title>OBJECTIVE</title>
    <p>The aim is to introduce and describe the design and development process of Mozzify, an integrated mobile health (mHealth) app that features real-time dengue fever case reporting and mapping system, health communication (real-time worldwide news and chat forum/timeline, within-app educational videos, links to local and international health agency websites, interactive signs and symptoms checker, and a hospital directions system), and behavior modification (reminders alert program on the preventive practices against dengue fever). We also aim to assess Mozzify in terms of engagement and information-sharing abilities, functionality, aesthetics, subjective quality, and perceived impact.</p>
    </sec>
    <sec>
    <title>METHODS</title>
    <p>The main goals of the Mozzify app were to increase awareness, improve knowledge, and change attitudes about dengue fever, health care-seeking behavior, and intention-to-change behavior on preventive practices for dengue fever among users. It was assessed using the Mobile Application Rating Scale (MARS) among 50 purposively sampled individuals: public health experts (n=5), environment and health-related researchers (n=23), and nonclinical (end users) participants (n=22).</p>
    </sec>
    <sec>
    <title>RESULTS</title>
    <p>High acceptability and excellent satisfaction ratings (mean scores ≥4.0 out of 5) based on the MARS subscales indicate that the app has excellent user design, functionality, usability, engagement, and information among public health experts, environment and health-related researchers, and end users. The app’s subjective quality (recommending the app to other people and the app’s overall star rating), and specific quality (increase awareness, improve knowledge, and change attitudes about dengue fever; health care-seeking behavior; and intention-to-change behavior on preventive practices for dengue fever) also obtained excellent satisfaction ratings from the participants. Some issues and suggestions were raised during the focus group and individual discussions regarding the availability of the app for Android devices, language options limitations, provision of predictive surveillance, and inclusion of other mosquito-borne diseases.</p>
    </sec>
    <sec>
    <title>CONCLUSIONS</title>
    <p>Mozzify may be a promising integrated strategic health intervention system for dengue fever case reporting and mapping; increase awareness, improve knowledge, and change attitude about dengue fever; and disseminating and sharing information on dengue fever among the general population and health experts. It also can be an effective aid in the successful translation of knowledge on preventive measures against dengue fever to practice.</p>

    Children with severe/profound and multiple disabilities (SMD) have speech difficulties because of the severity of their mental and physical disabilities. To enable communication function in such patients, communication aids (CAs) with key guards for minimizing errors caused by involuntary movements are used. This article describes an action research to investigate the most accessible and usable combination of CAs and key guards for a 9-year-old participant with SMD. We prepared some key guards and assessed the percentage of correct key operations that occurred when the participant sent messages using three CAs. The key guards were developed using corrugated boards, and the depth and size of the keys were varied. Psychometric methods were utilized in individual training sessions for using these CAs with key guards, and the results revealed the most accessible key guard for minimizing the participant’s errors. When the participant used the key guards during class at his special school, one of the authors observed and adjusted the settings of the CA’s interface (e.g., key layouts and recorded voice messages) to enable easier use. Through these practices, the frequency of CA usage and number of output messages gradually increased. These results indicate that (1) the accessibility and usability of CAs and key guards should be assessed using psychometric methods and quantitative indexes and (2) the fitters of CAs should evaluate the accessibility and usability of CAs through qualitative evaluation (e.g., observation of behavior) and improve CA interfaces according to the users’ living situation and settings.

    Communication has such a vital function as the foundation of human social life that speech disabilities can drastically deteriorate people's quality of life. The author has developed a voice output communication aid (VOCA) to enable children/persons with speech disabilities to communicate with other people according to conversation situations with iOS devices with global positioning system (GPS), positional information acquiring technology (iBeacon), and a clock function installed. The developed technology is an application compatible with iOS (hereinafter, app) that displays a list of messages (hereinafter, VOCA interface) if any of them correspond to the information on the user's location and time of use as acquired by users with a portable information device with a GPS function, iBeacon function, and clock function installed. Users can communicate by selecting the icons of required messages from VOCA interfaces to reproduce registered voice data instead of their own voices. We have named the developed technology "Friendly VOCA" because its intentions are that: (1) users can communicate with other people with as few operations involved as possible
    (2) it should be easy for users to learn and to operate. This paper reports the development processes of the Friendly VOCA and defines the ratios of preregistered VOCA interfaces displayed (hereinafter, correct answer rates) in acquiring positional information with GPS and with iBeacon. In Research Task 1, we have conducted experiments to verify the correct answer rates of the GPS system in outdoor use of the Friendly VOCA and in Research Task 2 we have conducted experiments to verify the correct answer rates of the iBeacon system in indoor use of the Friendly VOCA. The research results show that both the GPS system and iBeacon system can specify user's spatial information and display appropriate lists of messages. However, the experiments found that iBeacon signal transmitters can transmit signals over a distance of 50 m or more: to improve the correct answer rates of the iBeacon system, we may need to increase the distance between iBeacon signal transmitters or select devices with a shorter range of transmission.

    The purpose of this study was to compare the benefit of the “calm-down space: COZY Room” between children with severe motor and intellectual disabilities (SMID group) and children with mental retardation (MR group) by using an analytical instrument for salivary amylase activity (sAMY) as biochemical markers. The participants of this study were 12 SMID children and 12 MR children. This study was an experimental research using a mixed model design. The author collected their saliva samples and measured pre/post-sAMY before and after they used the “COZY Room”. These data ware analyzed using two-way repeated measures ANOVA, and the results showed that the interaction effect between &quot;disability group&quot; and &quot;time&quot; was significant (F(1, 22)=5.57, p&lt;.05). The assessment with Bonferroni multiple comparison procedure showed that post-sAMY of MR group was significantly lower than: (1) pre-sAMY of MR group and; (2) post-sAMY of SMID group. These indicate that &quot;COZY Room&quot; had different effects to SMID group and MR group in this present study, thus, additional examinations with quantitative and qualitative methods were recommended to describe the experiences of using the &quot;calm-down space&quot; in detail.

    重症心身障害児(重障児)は,脳の器質的病変等によって身体障害と知的障害を併せ持つため,自身の心身機能のみを用いて環境と相互作用することが難しい.故に,障害支援技術(AT)の利用が必要不可欠であるが,ATを導入・調整するためには,能動的表出行動を促進する物理的環境が重要となる.特に,過緊張は能動的表出行動を制限するため,リラックス空間が効果的だが,実証研究がほとんどなかった.本研究では,(1)重障児はリラックス空間を認識しているか,(2)その認識を共有するにはどのような定量的検討を行えばよいかを検討した.重障児28名を参与観察し,生理指標による定量的測定を試みた結果,(1)集団保育場面では反応が乏しい子でも,リラックス空間では能動的表出行動が認められ,物理的環境の変化を認識している,(2)唾液中のアミラーゼ活性量が定量的測定として有効であることが示唆された.また,重障児のリラクゼーションに環境特性が及ぼす効果モデルを提起した.

    Many observers of children&#039;s play have been interested in why children hide. This paper illustrated the process of the author&#039;s understanding of children&#039;s acts of hiding, and also suggested inter-subjective research hypotheses. Five- (n = 29) and six-year old (n = 19) children were studied through participant observation, during a total of 65 play episodes. The KJ method (Analysis 1) classified the 65 episodes into 13 primary categories. These 13 categories were then classified into 4 secondary categories, and finally &quot;dramatic&quot; and &quot;interpersonal&quot; acts were formed as 2 aggregate categories. Analysis 2 suggested the hypothesis that triadic relationships involved the creation of enclosing, covering, and separating, when children hid during play. Triads were characterized by a hiding &quot;subject&quot; (participants), a physical and psychological &quot;place,&quot; and &quot;others&quot; (outsiders). Finally, Burke&#039;s (1952 / 1982) &quot;dramatism&quot; perspective was introduced to offer two possible motives for why children hide.

    Objects: We carried out an investigation to clarify the real state of indoor air pollution by chlorpyrifos (termiticide) and exposure to chlorpyrifos of residents by measuring its urinary metabolite 3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridinol (TCP) as an exposure index, such as biological monitoring. Methods: The investigation was conducted in 43 individual houses with termiticide application (whether the termiticide was chlorpyrifos is uncertain) and 3 control houses without any termiticide application in Kagawa, Japan. Urine samples were collected from 46 healthy adult residents of the aforementioned houses. Results: Chlorpyrifos in indoor air in the control houses was not detected (ND<1 ng/m3, n=3), while 41 of 43 houses with termiticide application showed 1-350 ng/m3. Although the chlorpyrifos concentrations in these 41 houses did not exceeded the indoor air quality guideline of 1000 ng/m3, but 3 houses were higher than the guideline 100 ng/m3 for children in Japan. Urinary TCP concentrations of 0.1-7.8 ng/mg·creatinine were detected in 41 residents from the 41 houses where chlorpyrifos had been detected. The chlorpyrifos concentration and the urinary TCP revealed a positive correlation (r=0.5468, p<0.01, n=41). Conclusions: The immediate health hazard from air born chlorpyrifos in the examined houses was negligible, but the findings suggest that it is necessary to monitor chemicals which may contaminate indoor air and to assess the risk of prolonged exposure to such chemicals. The measuring of urinary metabolite TCP of chlorpyrifos via biological monitoring would be useful, allowing comprehensive evaluation of the exposure to chlorpyrifos in indoor air.

    学習障害が疑われる1症例(CA8:5)について,WISC-3,K-ABC ,ITPA を実施した.その結果,言語性学習障害であると考えられた.また,言語性能力について,詳しく分析するために標準失語症検査,失語症構文検査を用い,評価分析を試みた.標準失語症検査では,聴理解,読解共に長い文の理解が困難であると考えられ,聴覚的短期記憶のみでなく,文法処理能力に問題があることが示唆された.その為,失語症構文検査を行なった結果,理解方式は意味ストラテジーであり,助詞の理解が困難であると考えられた.以上のことから,言語性学習障害のより詳しい症状をとらえる為に,WISC-3,K-ABC ,ITPA に加え,標準失語症検査と失語症構文検査が有効であると考えられた.

    平成11年度より,香川県坂出市では,1歳6ヶ月児健診で未通過だった子どもの発達状況のフォローを一つの目的として,保健婦と言語聴覚士による2歳児を対象とした発達相談(以下,2歳児相談)を行っている.しかし,実施に際して,評価時間の短さや,子どもの語彙発達を評価する指標がない点が問題として挙げられた.そこで,2歳児相談時にスクリーニングとして使用できる語彙チェックリストを作成することを目的とし,2歳児の語彙発達の現状を明らかにするための調査研究を行った.調査の対象者は,香川県坂出市内の全保育所(12施設)に所属する1歳11ヶ月から2歳11ヶ月の子どもの保護者であり,161名であった.調査においては,名詞・代名詞・抽象語・動詞・形容詞・形容動詞・副詞・感動詞を含む,全語彙数452個のチェックリストを,調査用紙として用いた.分析を加えた結果,2歳児相談でスクリーニングの指標となる平均語彙数は,2歳0ヶ月児で183.9語,2歳6ヶ月児で288.7語であった.また,2歳9ヶ月〜2歳11ヶ月にかけて350語を超えており,グラフはほぼ横這い状態を示した.これらの結果から,今回用いたチェックリストの適用範囲は2歳9ヶ月以前と考察された.

    今回,私たちは,2歳児相談において,言語発達を正確に評価し,言語発達障害を有する子どもや「気になる子」を早期発見・早期療育するための語彙チェックリストの作成を目的に保育所に通う2歳前後の幼児を対象とした表出語彙に関する事前調査を実施した.なお,本稿では,その中でも特に動詞に焦点を当てて検討を加えた.調査で用いたチェックリストの項目は,大久保(1984)が作成した2歳児の語彙リストと三省堂「こどもことば絵じてん」を参考に作成した.本稿で取り扱う動詞は452の全語彙中,123語であった.本調査における動詞の特徴として,2歳0ヶ月時で通過する語は123語中,12%であり,2歳6ヶ月時で通過する語は60%となった.このことからも,動詞は2歳0ヶ月から2歳6ヶ月の間に飛躍的に獲得される可能性が示唆された.

    香川県坂出市で行われている「2歳児相談」において,言語発達障害を有する子ども等の早期発見・早期療育を行う手がかりの1つとして,語彙チェックリストを作成する目的で,2歳児を対象に表出語彙に関するアンケート調査を実施した.本研究では文法カテゴリー別に分類し,修飾語である形容詞,形容動詞,副詞に関して整理および考察を試みた.2歳0ヶ月児と2歳6ヶ月児の表出語彙数を比較した結果,語彙数は急速に増加していた.修飾語の内容に関して,Nelson(1973)の文法カテゴリーの分類をもとに整理した場合,形容詞における属性および状態に関する語彙に関しても2歳6ヶ月児で増加傾向を呈していた.さらに性質を示しかつ,対の意味を示す形容詞において,2歳6ヶ月児では対義語(大きい-小さいなど)をともに獲得しているのに比し,2歳0ヶ月児では,一方の語しか獲得されていないことが確認された.したがって,形容詞・形容動詞・副詞等の修飾語の語彙チェックリストを作成する場合,(1)修飾語の種類や数を増やすこと,(2)形容詞に関しては,対義語の吟味が必要であることが示唆された.

    変声障害の特徴として,年齢( 歳代),性(男性),喉頭所見(声帯の充血・浮腫),声質(声の翻転)が知られている.今回,これら特徴の中で,初診時において年齢( 歳),喉頭所見(声門の間隙),声質(強い気息性嗄声)といった若干異なる特徴を有する症例を経験し,精査により,変声障害と判断することができ,短期間の訓練で症状が改善した.今回の症例により,音声障害においては発症時期や症状の経過等について問診等により十分に把握し,診断・訓練を行うことが重要であることが確認できた.

Furthermore, I suggested three viewpoints to understand the motive of children&#039;s hiding acts; Interpretation, Space, and Transition. In the Interpretation theory, the motives of hiding acts that were considered in precedent studies were interpreted in two axes; &quot;motive factors&quot; and &quot;researchers&#039;grounds to interpret the motive.&quot; As for &quot;motive factors,&quot; the motives were attributed to the child&#039;s &quot;internel factor&quot; or &quot;external factor.&quot; Next, &quot;researchers&#039;grounds to interpret the motive&quot; were assumed two aspects, one is based on the psychotherapy and the other is on the observation of children&#039;s play. Then in the Space theory, I distinguished an approach (micro space theory) that discussed interactions between hiding children and physical environments to one (macro space theory) that explicated relationship among &quot;secret space&quot; and other space from the point of view of spacial cognition. At last, I characterized changes of hiding acts in aging as qualitertive transitions, and described characteristic hiding acts of each ages as the Transition theory.

    We aimed to develop the remote learning support system, which is equipped with functions that reduce the user's overload and enhances the presence of two-way communication, for long absence students and the following results were achieved: 1) We developed a user assist function to reduce the user's operational load by adding an input system triggered by a physiological reaction to the line-of-sight input device. 2) We developed a function to display a 3D avatar on the monitor of a remote-controlled robot, and found factors to make the avatar's movement be like a human. 3) We developed a function to zoom the place pointed by a teacher and revealed the parameters desirable for the students, and the teacher gave a positive evaluation to the function.

    This study aimed to build a collaborative system of medical care, welfare, and education for the education of children during hospitalization or after discharge. Independence supporters for children with chronic specific illnesses (hereinafter referred to as independence supporters) contacted, coordinated, and cooperated with the Board of Education and schools regarding reasonable accommodation and basic environment maintenance. In addition, we provided distance learning support in response to requests from children and their parents. Under the influence of the pandemic caused by COVID-19 from February 2020, schools and boards of education were forced to respond, and cooperation did not develop, and the field of research was limited to Ehime Prefecture. In Ehime Prefecture, the activities of independence supporters such as children with chronic specific illnesses have come to be recognized, and the foundation for solving educational problems in schools has been established.

    We Conducted a self-evaluation (rubrick evaluation) of students in "Health education for children with developmental disorders" and "Educational practice for children with developmental disorders", to reviewing the classes of subjects related to education for sick children in Ehime University faculty of
    education. In remote learning support utilizing ICT equipment, live chat was used at requests of the sick children. In the use of interactive communication robots, we could find out the problems caused by the Internet environment and speech recognition.     To evaluate not only how well the students understood the target activities but also their performance in class, we created an assessment rubric on the subject “Foreign Language Activities.” It consists of four items on speaking and communication activities, and each item has three different descriptors according to three levels: foundation, developing, and advanced. Descriptors are a kind of scoring guide used to evaluate the quality of students' constructed performance. Students can prepare and participate in the activities by using this rubric because it clearly provides them with a visual, cognitive map and learning tool for them to understand what they are required to do in the class. We can use this rubric not only as a scoring guide for teachers but also as a learning guide for students.

    In 2013, the authors observed spontaneous actions of children with severe motor and intellectual disabilities (MID) as an action research. Spontaneous actions of children with MID increased in physical environments where there were few noise and children could receive comfortable stimuli for them (high S/N ratio environments), but especially slow frequent comfortable stimuli were effective to increase their spontaneous actions. Then, in 2014 and 2015, we examined spontaneous actions in high S/N ratio environments with high frequent stimuli conditions, slow frequent stimuli conditions, and the control condition. Spontaneous actions of children with MID were recorded with one of “Kinect with Windows” and their physiological reactions were analyzed with an analytical instrument for salivary amylase activity and an autonomic nerve activity measuring instrument.

    Children with SMID (severe motor and intellectual disabilities) need the cooperation framework of education, medical and welfare necessary, in terms of living in a residential area, by forming a support network. So we aim to study the way of comprehensive education support system in the community. As a result of the subject to actual situation and needs investigating the parents, it was shown that there is a need for expertise improvement of special needs school teachers. In response to this, 1) providing information on SMID, 2) conducted training sessions, 3) the consultation support were carried out in cooperation with the education, medical and welfare. With these results, we examined comprehensive education support system model in regional cities in a wide area.

    本研究では,高等教育機関の英会話の授業において,聴覚障がい学生の情報保障として利用可能なシステムを試作・改良することを目的とした。平成19年度は,平成18年度に行った第1次試作機の改良をベースに,第2次試作機を試作した。第2次試作機は,(1)「学生の近くまで近寄って授業をしたい,健聴学生にはヒアリング指導を重視したい」という英会話担当講師のニーズを満たし,(2)「即応が求められる場面では従来のノートテイクを併用したい」という聴覚障がい学生のニーズを満たすために,IEEE 802.11gに準拠した無線LANを介して3台のノートパソコンでデータの送受信を行うシステムとした。講師用PCは,講師の発話をテキスト化し,ノートテイカー用PCと聴覚障がい学生用PCにテキストデータを送信する役割を担う。そのため,音声認識ソフトウエア(ScanSoft社製「Dragon Naturally Speaking Professional 2005」)と,ノートテイク専用ソフト「まあちゃん」をインストールした。ノートテイカー用PCは,(1)講師や受講生の言動・反応を文字化する,(2)講師用ノートパソコンで変換されたテキストデータを修正する,という2つの作業を担った。テキスト編集用にノートテイク専用ソフト「まあちゃん」を用いるとともに,キーボードに不慣れなノートテイカーが容易に文字化することができるよう,タッチパネル(ワコム社製液晶ペンタブレット「DTI-520Uモデル」)と用いた。聴覚障がい学生用PCには,ノートテイク専用ソフト「まあちゃん」をインストールすることで,講師用パソコンで変換されたテキストデータと,ノートテイカー用パソコンで入力されたテキストデータ,及び手書き入力された画像データを一つの画面に統合する機能を搭載した。

    This research concerned about the AAC(Augmentative and Alternative Communication) technology and/or AT(Assistive Technology) for the multiple disabled children with sensory impairments. We had following 3 aims to investigate.1)To develop new assessment methods of visual and/or auditory abilities for the multiple disabled children.2)To plan attractive teaching methods of understanding environmental supports for the multiple disabled children with sensory impairments.3)To specify strategies of effective environmental supports.We gathered cases and statistics of the multiple disabled children with sensory impairments, digested theories and techniques of self-determination for disabled children, collected assistive technology aids, developed new sensory assessment methods, and experimentally tested these methods.From the analysis of the statistics and the case works, we found followings.a)There were 19.9% multiple disabled children in the schools for the visual disabilities. Most of the multiple disabled children with sensory impairments were with intellectual disabilities(70.5%). There were 33.3% multiple disabled children in the special schools(schools for the visual disabilities, hearing disabilities, intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, and health impairments).b)Many teachers thought that ordinary AAC techniques could not adopt for these multiple disabled children with sensory impairments.From the experiments, we developed below.c)Assessment system for the multiple disabled children with low vision using eye movement.d)Evaluation system for legibility as a universal design tool.

Research on accessibility of electionFY 2004 : (1) The field investigation on e-voting in Niimi showed that although the disabled voters were satisfied with the utility of the system, accommodation in accessibility wasn't widely achieved.FY 2005 : By the investigation above and the similar investigation in Yokkaichi, the followings were found. (1) Elder people's anxiety about writing was dissolved. Non-Braille users and people with learning difficulties could vote. (2) In both cases, disabled people had no opportunity to participate in the process of introducing the system and choosing the equipment. The investigations also suggested a discrepancy between the accommodation and the needs, (3) high demand for system reliability, (4) the necessity to improve the equipment and (5) of the law for the third-party attestation and a minimum accessibility.2. Research on integrated assistive systemFY 2004 : (1) An analysis of the questionnaire done after a mock e-voting, the round-table discussion by the barrier-free specialists, and (2) the investigation in Niimi confirmed the minimum accessibility of the system. They also suggested some usability problems to the diverse disabled population, the necessity of accessibility evaluation methodology, and legal adjustments to secure accommodation.FY 2005 : The investigation in Yokkaichi suggested the followings. (1) It is difficult to get election information in Braille. (2) With voting assistance, people with learning difficulties can participate. The overall assist plan is necessary in order to promote more participation.3. Research on election and town-planningFY 2004 : The analysis of participatory workshop for a barrier-free town suggested that in order to ensure a voting environment, it is necessary to understand the barriers disabled encountered by people through a simulation experience.FY 2005 : The investigation in Yokkaichi suggested that although more polling stations become barrier-free, it is hard to use the nearest small-scale assembly halls.
