• Resonance expansion for quantum walks and its applications to the long-time behavior Reviewed International journal

In this paper, resonances are introduced to a class of quantum walks on $\mathbb{Z}$. Resonances are defined as poles of the meromorphically extended resolvent of the unitary time evolution operator. In particular, they appear inside the unit circle. Some analogous properties to those of quantum resonances for Schrödinger operators are shown. Especially, the resonance expansion, an analogue of the eigenfunction expansion, indicates the long-time behavior of quantum walks. The decaying rate, the asymptotic probability distribution, and the weak limit of the probability density are described by resonances and associated (generalized) resonant states. The generic simplicity of resonances is also investigated.

In this paper, some properties of resonances for multi-dimensional quantum walks are studied. Resonances for quantum walks are defined as eigenvalues of complex translated time evolution operators in the pseudo momentum space. For some typical cases, we show some results of existence or nonexistence of resonances. One is a perturbation of an elastic scattering of a quantum walk which is an analogue of classical mechanics. Another one is a shape resonance model which is a perturbation of a quantum walk with a non-penetrable barrier.

In this study, we review some topics on spectral and scattering theory for Schrödinger operators or time-independent wave equations and inverse scattering problems. First, we consider an example of an inverse problem for a one-dimensional wave equation with a piecewise constant coefficient. Nonscattering energy naturally appears in the process of reconstruction of the coefficient. A similar problem is known in multidimensional cases. This problem can be reduced to an interior transmission eigenvalue problem. Furthermore, herein, we refer to the shape resonance model for the Schrödinger equation as a related topic.

We consider the stationary state of a quantum walk on the finite path, where the sink and source are set at the left and right boundaries. The quantum coin is uniformly placed at every vertex of the path graph. At every time step, a new quantum walker penetrates into the internal from the left boundary and also some existing quantum walkers in the internal goes out to the sinks located in the left and right boundaries. The square modulus of the stationary state at each vertex is regarded as the comfortability for a quantum walker to this vertex in this paper. We show the weak convergence theorem for the scaled limit distribution of the comfortability in the limit of the length of the path.

We construct a distorted Fourier transformation associated with the multi-dimensional quantum walk. In order to avoid the complication of notations, almost all of our arguments are restricted to two dimensional quantum walks (2DQWs) without loss of generality. The distorted Fourier transformation characterizes generalized eigenfunctions of the time evolution operator of the QW. The 2DQW which will be considered in this paper has an anisotropy due to the definition of the shift operator for the free QW. Then we define an anisotropic Banach space as a modified Agmon-H\"{o}rmander's $\mathcal{B}^*$ space and we derive the asymptotic behavior at infinity of generalized eigenfunctions in these spaces. The scattering matrix appears in the asymptotic expansion of generalized eigenfunctions.

We consider the discrete-time quantum walk whose local dynamics is denoted by $C$ at the perturbed region $\{ 0,1,…,M−1 \}$ and free at the other positions. We obtain the stationary state with a bounded initial state. The initial state is set so that the perturbed region receives the inflow $\omega^n$ at time $n$ $(|\omega |=1)$. From this expression, we compute the scattering on the surface of $−1$ and $M$ and also compute the quantity how quantum walker accumulates in the perturbed region; namely the energy of the quantum walk, in the long time limit. We find a discontinuity of the energy with respect to the frequency of the inflow.

We consider the time-independent scattering theory for time evolution operators of one-dimensional two-state quantum walks. The scattering matrix associated with the position-dependent quantum walk naturally appears in the asymptotic behavior at spatial infinity of generalized eigenfunctions. The asymptotic behavior of generalized eigenfunctions is a consequence of an explicit expression of the Green function associated with the free quantum walk. When the position-dependent quantum walk is a finite rank perturbation of the free quantum walk, we derive a kind of combinatorial constructions of the scattering matrix by counting paths of quantum walkers. We also mention some remarks on the tunneling effect.

In this paper, we consider the scattering theory for acoustic-type equations on non-compact manifolds with a single flat end. Our main purpose is to show an existence result of non-scattering energies. Precisely, we show a Weyl-type lower bound for the number of non-scattering energies. Usually a scattered wave occurs for every incident wave by the inhomogeneity of the media. However, there may exist suitable wavenumbers and patterns of incident waves such that the corresponding scattered wave vanishes. We call (the square of) this wavenumber a non-scattering energy in this paper. The problem of non-scattering energies can be reduced to a well-known interior transmission eigenvalues problem.

We consider a position-dependent quantum walk on ${\bf Z}$. In particular, we derive a detection method for edge defects by embedded eigenvalues of its time evolution operator. In the present paper, an edge defect is a set $\{ y - 1,y \} $ for $y\in {\bf Z}$, in which the coin operator is an anti-diagonal matrix. In fact, under some suitable assumptions, the existence of a finite number of edge defects is equivalent to the existence of embedded eigenvalues of the time evolution operator. In view of applications, by checking the spectrum, we can detect the existence of disconnecting edge (in the sense of edge defects above) on the line without directly watching it.

We study the spectral analysis and the scattering theory for time evolution operators of position-dependent quantum walks. Our main purpose of this paper is construction of generalized eigenfunctions of the time evolution operator. Roughly speaking, the generalized eigenfunctions are not square summable but belong to $\ell^{\infty}$-space on ${\bf Z}$. Moreover, we derive a characterization of the set of generalized eigenfunctions in view of the time-harmonic scattering theory. Thus we show that the S-matrix associated with the quantum walk appears in the singularity expansion of generalized eigenfunctions.

The theory of inverse boundary value problems has been used in fields of engineering and physics such as non-destructive testing, medical imaging.
Calder\'{o}n's inverse problem for an elliptic partial differential equation appears in electrical impedance tomography (EIT).
EIT is one of techniques for medical imaging.
One can infer inside of human body by the surface electrode measurements.
Mathematically, this technique corresponds to the reconstruction of the electrical conductivity from boundary measurements.
One of theoretical models of boundary measurements is the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map.
In the present paper, we consider a discrete analogue of Calder\'{o}n's inverse problem.
Namely, we derive a reconstruction procedure of conductivity on circular resistor networks from the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map.
A numerical example of perturbation of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map is also given in this paper.

Then the problem can be reduce to one-dimensional wave equations. This study is inspired by a non-destructive testing via ultrasonic waves for medium with some thin bond layers. We also consider an inverse problem in view of the bond correction method and the pressure dependence of this method.

Some properties of resonances for multi-dimensional quantum walks are studied. Resonances for quantum walks are defined as eigenvalues of complex translated time evolution operators in the pseudo momentum space. A quantum walk with a non-penetrable barrier has some eigenvalues. We can see an instability of eigenvalues undera perturbation of the non-penetrable barrier. However, we also see the stability as resonance poles. This is an analogue of shape resonance model for Schrodinger operators. This is a joint work with Kenta Higuchi (Ehime University / JSPS research fellow PD).

We talk about the spectral properties of Schroedinger operators on perturbed lattices. The main topics are the non-existence or the discreteness of embedded eigenvalues, the limiting absorption principle for the resolvent, spectral representations, the S-matrix and the associated inverse problems. Our theory covers the square, triangular, diamond, Kagome lattices, as well as the ladder, the graphite and the subdivision.
